I just asked Alexa what my notification was.. I walked in the door I saw the yellow blinking light on top of it and it answered with a totally new voice. For months now Alexa has been trying to push Alexa+ on my device. Every time it has asked I have said no. Yet to my surprise or maybe not my surprise.. Amazon Alexa went ahead and did it by itself. Now when I ask a simple question I get a word salad response. When I just want to hear the most recent NPR news podcast I get a full paragraph of text before it even starts playing it. I just want short simple answers like the old alexa. I don’t need ai in it. More Enshittification .. I didn’t ask for this I don’t want this and seriously now I am thinking of just removing all of the Amazon Alexis throughout my house. I have four I thought they were great idea great product. But overtime quality has just sunk.
Several years ago I had gotten my first Alexa has a gift. Soon found out that I could hook up my lights and switches and various plugs to it which seemed really cool. I like the whole idea of a smart home. I even got an Alexa enabled microwave so I could say Alexa microwave 30 seconds Alexis stop microwave and so forth.
However last year the Alexa enabled wall socket plugs that I have no longer work with alexa. Then the Philips light bulbs that were Alexa enabled no longer work. I have tried several times to get these back up and running with no luck.
The other thing that that has recently started doing is showing that I have an notification, only to then try to sell me something or tell me that I haven’t ordered deodorant in x amount of weeks and it might be time to reorder. I don’t need that
I have a total of four of these things in my house and I am seriously thinking of just throwing them out now.
