Which could also be crazy right wing nut job a religious stations only in Spanish.
# I Spent $200 on a Shortwave Radio and All I Got Was Jesus in Spanish
Look, I grew up in the golden age. Cold War numbers stations. BBC World Service crackling through the static at 2 AM. Radio Moscow telling me capitalism was doomed while I ate Doritos in my bedroom. It was *magical*.
So last week I thought, “You know what? I’m gonna unplug from the algorithm. Get back to basics.” Dropped two hundred bucks on a shortwave receiver. Real knobs. Real antenna. The whole deal.
Fired it up. Scanned the bands.
Spanish. Spanish. More Spanish. Then some guy screaming about the Book of Revelation like he’s calling a horse race at the apocalypse derby. Back to Spanish. Then a different one convinced the UN and the “govment” are controlled by demons.
That’s it. That’s the whole spectrum.
Where’s my numbers stations? Where’s my Cold War intrigue? Where’s the guy in Prague reading poetry over static? Gone. Replaced by Brother Earl’s End Times Forecast and twenty-seven flavors of La Hora de la Verdad.
I didn’t abandon the internet for *this*.
I’m going back to doom-scrolling. At least the ads are in English.
