I’ve been a developer for 30 plus years now and one of the things that never ceases to amaze me is other developers coming into a project not involving the customer in this case internal customers like sales editorial marketing… And basically taking the attitude of it’s my way or the highway. First experience that I had with this was 15 plus years ago where we were building a scheduling system for sales reps to load insertion otters. Brie sidetracked here and assertion order is a contract between us and a customer where we would take their advertising and put it on the web put it in a magazine use them at a event etc. Anyhow the developer who was building this said that from now on reps have to do it this way reps being salespeople. They have to do a then B then see then d basically introducing a ton of friction where before it was simply passing it over to one person who would load it into Salesforce. I told them that reps will not do this that the anything that gets in their way of getting something done quickly and fast for the customer is a no-go. It needs to be a and B and that’s it. This developer then tells me that if they’re not going to do it this way then they will be fired. First off totally loaded comment but developers do not have the clout to fire anyone especially people that are not in their department and this guy was as junior as junior could be. By saying that he’s just exposing his absolute ignorance when it comes to the hierarchy of a business. So this developer got all pissed off and found an example where a rep had done it the incorrect way and went to the owner of the company. What the rep did realize or what the dev didn’t realize was that the IO he pulled happened to be from the owner of the company so he went to the owner of the company to complain loudly about how things were being done and how reps cannot do this anymore and that they should be terminated or at least put on a pip. A pip being a performance improvement plan.
This Dev was with us for approximately 2 more months.
The most recent example that I heard this is another Dev again building a system for another department flat out said on a call being recorded by read AI and otter AI if editorial is unwilling and will not do this then we need to get rid of them and get new editors.
