First let me start by saying I’ve never played this game before. My son bought it for me for Christmas saying that I would love it. It is now February 1st and I just installed it on the switch. It was downloadable content. So no physical cartridge box directions nothing.
Anyhow during COVID this game seemed to be everywhere and everyone was playing this or the Doom eternal which I saw one video about and said yeah no. I’m a retrogamer and the newest games that I like are classic doom classic quake portal Half-Life. The newest things that I’ll play continuously or on the original Xbox. But since this was a gift I am going to try it out and see how it is.
Ok so I’ve played Animal crossing for probably about an hour now. And so far it seems like it’s a game for preschoolers and primary kids. After going through and setting up my name talking to two animals which I assume are raccoons named Tommy and Timmy and being flown out to an island. I got to pick the name of my island but I see Nintendo has some censorship going on
It wouldn’t let me pick Epstein Island as the name of my island. I guess if it’s a game for kids they got to keep that s*** out so totally understand that. Anyhow
After naming my island the other two animals Phoebe and Hamlet voted to use my name. Not even sure what I named it it’s been less than an hour I’ve totally forgotten.
Next was finding a suitable piece of land to put up a tent. I took all of five seconds to find. And I was supposed to talk to the raccoon Brothers, but then they tell me that I need to go help the other players find a suitable piece of land for their tents. Another 10 seconds later after placing them next to one another I’m back talking to the raccoon Brothers.
Next I had to do a task of going out and picking up 10 pieces of firewood and bringing them back to the Mr Roarke of the island A guy by the name of Tom Nook. So I collected 13 pieces and he congratulated me I’m doing a job well done and that I could keep the extra three that I had picked up. After this he wanted me to go out and pick pears from a tree. Only six pairs. The tasks for beyond simpleton. Once completed I talked to him and he gave me a cot to sleep in in my tent..
It’s at this point where I started to get frustrated with the game for being so simple… I could not figure out how to get into the cot and sleep. Turns out all I needed to do is walk into it and hold the joystick down making sure that I got into the bed.
Then I was told that time on the island will run in sync with real time so it was 8:21 when I quit the game and inside the game it was 8:21 as well.
I’m going to jump on YouTube and see if there’s anything beyond what I just saw on this game. Because I can’t see firing it up again.
